Writing for Stage & Screen

Join writer, performer and teacher Poornima Kirby for this creative exploration of stage- and screen-writing. Learn how to skillfully evoke character, conflict, visual metaphor, and truthful dialogue. Study excerpts of great plays and screenplays to understand the craft of structuring a powerful story. Students will write and share their own short scenes in an inspiring and collaborative workshop setting.
Hip Hop 101: Rap & Melody

Join rapper and songwriter Ray.Lou for an empowering exploration of how to write raps and melodies. Students will learn about the history of hip hop, while gaining practical experience writing and free styling rhymes over beats. You’ll learn the structure of a good hip hop song, and most importantly, embrace hip hop as an outlet for resistance, honesty and self-expression.


Theatre Improvisation

Story Songwriting
with Stephen Day – Saturdays, 1:00 – 3:00 pm [ET], June 11 – July 16, 2022. $140
Come learn the secrets of writing captivating songs, based in the core elements of storytelling, such as conflict, archetype, mystery and humor. Join musician, songwriter and storyteller Steve Day for this practical, laboratory style course. Learn fun and specific skills and apply them directly to songs you are writing. This course will have a beginner and intermediate section, with some overlapping instruction.
